By now, most language professionals in the video game localization industry have embraced machine translation technology. We have accepted that it is here to stay, it’s not after our jobs, and it can actually be very useful once we learn how to use it. There are, however, other technologies such as text-to-speech that haven’t been explored as much. Slightly less in the limelight of linguists, neural synthesized speech has evolved into a fascinating field, and it can be tremendously useful for various applications including video games. In this round table discussion, we will explore the current use of this technology in our industry, including the challenges associated with it from  production, technology, and ethical points of view. Our speakers will cover different roles in video game localization and audio production, and will offer a broad overview of the current use of text-to-speech technology, and ideas for the future.
